Finch Fiaco at the Feeder!

While in Washington State we stayed with friends who had a picture window with feeders just beyond.

I was fascinated with the variety of birds we saw--Stellar Jays, Robins, a brown headed cowbird, sparrows and a flock of golden finches.

The brightly colored male kept his distance most of the time--and then there were the ladies--as you can see there was quite a fiasco at the feeder!

I love finches with their bright yellow feathers. We have quite a lot on our street, so I see them when I go for a walk.

Oh, I so love these little Pine Siskins. Some years they are quite scarce here. They have such sweet little songs and are very friendly - the little babies come up so close to us. Looks like they were putting on a bit of a show for you last weekend!

Oops. I see the Chinese lady has already been here. You must be asleep.

I think he is saying, "I was here first!" A wonderful action shot :)

You are right, Abe! I was sleeping! Tch tch tch--I fail to see why the Chinese "lady" keeps leaving this kind of thing all the time. It is REALLY annoying.

lol Ah well--she's been erased--until next time. (sigh)

Wonderful shot! They do this at my feeder too, always arguing over the food. It's fun to watch.

What a wonderful shot! I've seen PEOPLE do this - at the twice-year sale at the Value Village perhaps?

I am lucky enough to have nightingale singing outside my window, I can hear her all night, until most of the other birdies, including a particularly loud wren(!) the next tree along wake up just after 4am and drown him out with their chirping.
Those American blue jays you have look amazing. Our jays are dun coloured with flashes of blue at the wings ~ they are very shy.
If you're interested I posted up some v cute video of blue tits and great tits (yes that is what they're called, they were obviously named in more innocent times!) sitting in people's living rooms, splashing in birdbaths ... etc.
Those are the prettiest of our common birds here in the UK ~ they look like something out of a pet shop.
I really miss having a bird feeder (or a garden to put one in). It's displays like the one you photographed that make life so entertaining ;-)
