Icy Moss Heart - Guest Heart Thursday

Visiting a friend in Washington State recently, we awoke one morning to find an icy film glittering over everything.  What a beautiful sight as the sun rose.  But it is truly hard to capture a sparkle!  This is an icy moss heart we found clinging to a tree branch.  I love the color--and if you click on the picture for the bigger view--you'll see the ice crystals outlining the heart.  It is a beautiful combination.

Pie Crust Heart - Guest Heart Thursday

I was making an apple pie for Thanksgiving, when I noticed this bit of crust left on the rolling pin--it's a heart! By the way, the pie was delish.  I make the BEST apple pies!

Candied Roses - Guest Heart Thursday

Yesterday morning when I awoke, everything was covered with frost.  Our thick freezing fog had added a sparkling patina to everything it touched, including this exquisite rose.  The heart is in the top of the rose--doesn't this rose look like it's been candied?  I've heard candied rose petals are quite delicious.

In a Cat's Eye - Weekend Reflections

This is our precious Toez.  Toezterz the Polydactyl Cat is six months old and full of the dickens.  If you enlarge the picture--look closely--you can see a reflection of my fingers!  It looks like my hands are holding the iris of her eyes.

We are SO thankful for this little companion.  She has filled our home and hearts with laughter and joy.

Bedraggled Beauty - Guest Heart Thursday

I'm not quite sure what flower this is--but was unexpectedly startled by this dark purplish heart.  It was a flower standing all alone in my garden--one I hadn't noticed before.  This beautiful bedraggled heart is wonderfully complimented by the muted colors caught in the background.

An unexpectedly lovely heart, just perfect for Guest Heart Thursday.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Scattered Jewels - Weekend Reflections

Thursday, my darling little niece and I walked to the park in the spare sunlight.  As we passed beneath a tree where the ground was thick with yellow leaves--we noticed some friendly faery had scattered handfuls of sparkling jewels along the ground.

They were just for us, we decided.  Though we tried to string them onto long blades of grass, to make a beautiful raindrop necklace....alas, we could not.

So we left the sparkling bits of faery dust glittering in the leaves.  And waved a fond farewell to the one who had sprinkled them in our path.

Strawberry Heart - Guest Heart Thursday

Late this summer, the everbearing strawberries had a big surprise for me.  I was surprised by this luscious Strawberry Heart.  Yes, I ate it--and it was as sweet and delicious as it looks!

Heart of Light - Guest Heart Thursday

I have been just WAITING to put this one up!  In my experimenting with playing with light at night with my camera, I finally was able to capture a heart!  This one is for YOU, darling Sissy!  (Grin)

Light Play

Driving through the darkness through Portland on our way home from Spokane, I discovered playing with light.  I had such fun.  There were a lot of pictures I deleted.  But then there were others...

That chilly dark evening, I caught this beautiful picture of light at night quite unexpectedly!

Jeweled Clover Heart - Guest Heart Thursday

The sun came out for an instant yesterday--as you can see I was able to capture this lovely bejeweled heart.  I am sure this will make a fine brooch for a tiny faery princess--one of those faeries who visit my garden.  (grin)  I know, I know--I have a GREAT imagination!

Happy Snap Apple Day

I could hardly take my eyes from this bevy of brilliant leaves.

There is nothing so gloriously red as blackberry vine leaves in Fall.  The color just fills my eyes.

Happy Snap Apple Day!  As you can see here--even the spiders are decorating for the holiday.

Necklace for a Faery Queen

When the sun came out for a millisecond this morning, I saw this glowing webbed beauty.  An unlikely necklace of glowing raindrop jewels which will no doubt grace the lovely frock of the faery queen who frequently visits my garden.

Such loveliness on this dreary, drab, rainy day!

Toez Has a Heart - Guest Heart Thursday

I was SO happy to discover this permanent little heart on Princess Twinkle Toez the Polydactyl Kitten's paws.  She is the most delightful cat in the world.  Her antics fill our home with laughter.  My husband has taken to calling her "Camo Kitty," because her coloring mimics his camo pants.

Clown Face Heart Cloud - Guest Heart Thursday

I was fortunate to capture this gloriously brooding heart, as our first Fall storm clouds began to boil across the skies.  I didn't expect to capture such beautiful colors--or to see the face of a clown smiling down at me.

Cloud Dance

The sunsets lately have been spectacular!  I caught this photo over the back fence.  It looked as though one courtly cloud had asked the other to dance, bending to kiss her hand.  She looked back over her shoulder, just as I clicked my camera!

So glad to have caught them before they danced off into the night.

Napkin Heart - Guest Heart Thursday

I found this heart waiting for me, elbows akimbo, on the top of the silverware box!  Of course I thought to myself--I must take a picture of this one for Guest Heart Thursday!

Heart in Cloud - Guest Heart Thursday

This lovely heart snuggled in the clouds seems like it is smiling -- and about to take a leisurely nap against that fluffy cloud pillow.  I caught this fragile heart over the coastal foothills near the Baskett Slough Wildlife Refuge last summer.   What a beautiful moment -- I'm so grateful for digital cameras!

Her Heart Shaped Face - Guest Heart Thursday

I suppose after awhile folks will become tired of hearing about Toez the Polydactyl Kitten.  She is such a character.  Yesterday she protected me from a giant spider, about the size of my thumb--by pouncing upon  it, and eating it.  (gulp)

As you can see, she is an odd little creature.  Her tail is so long and active it reminds me of the Cowardly Lion's tail, as seen in the classic movie The Wizard of Oz.  As a kid, I loved how that appendage seemed to have a mind of its own.

When Toez sits down, her tail tucks itself up between her cute little feet, where, much to her bright-eyed consternation, it wiggles and waggles against her cheekbones.  Sometimes she gets totally annoyed and goes on a complete rampage trying to catch her tail.

As you can see, Toez brings so much joy into our lives!

Along with that beautiful heart-shaped face, there are at least four hearts hidden in her fur.  How many can you find?

Cloud Dances

To me, this looks like a dragon stretching his head across the sky--maybe he's heading for a porthole in the clouds!  I am always amazed at the beauty to be found in the clouds.

I thought of sky dancers when I saw what I had caught in this photo--It is like one cloud is taking the hand of the other, to dance across the sky.

Have a lovely day everyone.  Keep looking up!

Tulip Tree Heart

Here is the lovely flowerings, of what we affectionately call a Tulip Tree.  I took this beautiful heart-shaped photo last Spring.  This has been the strangest summer.  These lovely blossoms usually bloom in early Spring.  But just yesterday I found tulip flowers nestling in the leaves of the Tree.  I've never seen tulip tree blossoms and leaves together before.  It was the one moment I didn't have my camera, so you'll have to use your imagination!

Sandy Cliffs and Teacup Rock - Skywatch Friday

On our 27th Anniversary over a year ago, we visited one of our favorite places in the world--Pacific City on the Oregon Coast.  It is an incredibly beautiful place where the Dory boats blast toward shore, slip sliding onto the beaches.  Surfers gracefully dance along on the curl of emerald waves.  Steep cliffs stalk the edge of the cove--vanishing into a huge sand dune.  People fly down the side of that gigantic dune on sand boards.  Brave souls.  One can look out at Teacup Rock.  I have caught some wonderful photos of that huge rock reflected in retreating ocean waves.  It is magical.

My husband and I love to hike up to the top of these sand cliffs.  As you can see they are beautiful, yet dangerous, so you have to be very careful to stay away from the edges.   The sand cliffs can crumble away at a moment's notice.  I like the smooth look of those cliffs.  Recently we watched two grey whales frolicking in the sudsy waves at the base of them.

Pacific City, with its eclectic shops, unusual restaurants, spectacular Teacup Rock, gorgeous beaches, wonderful sunsets, fabulous cliffs, amazing surfing and dory boats, is a perfectly wonderful place to visit!

Have a lovely week, everyone!

Beach Comber Heart - Guest Heart Thursday

Last January it was uncommonly warm at the beach.  Walking along the white pebbled sands, where piles of driftwood from recent storms lay in abstract patterns, I found this driftwood heart tucked within a fold of sand and wind.

What a lovely day at the beach!

Living on Thyme - Camera Critters

Yesterday, my sweet young friend Rena and I were walking through the garden perusing the flowers and herbs.  We were both delighted when we noticed this purplish butterfly resting delicately on the tips of the Thyme.  This little fellow was happily eating his fill from the flowers, barely moving--even when I moved the camera in closer.

We have white and yellow butterflies, along with the monarch and swallowtails.  I had not seen this purplish butterfly until this summer.  It seems to especially love living on Thyme.

Opal Waters

Here is another look at the magical waters of the creek running through our town.  On this day, my niece and I did not feel anything spooky and stayed quite awhile, telling stories and playing in the water.  We even found a wonderful old bottle.

It is brown with four seams--I'm sure it must date back to the early pioneer days.  It looks like it once was sealed with a stopper of some sort.

Have a lovely day!
