RockHeart Reflections -Guest Heart Thursday

On our way home, Mumsie and I stopped at Rooster Rock Park.  What a beautiful sight--the water was so still it looked like the world extended below the waters.  It looked like that dock was floating on air.

This is the channel which runs along Rooster Rock itself.

Above you can see a very large stone heart--a combination of cliff and glassy reflection.

Sandstone Heart -Guest Heart Thursday

I spotted this wonderful sandstone heart right away.   Last winter's storms loosened a great deal of the cliffs here and this crumble of sandstone is what is left.

This is the cliff itself.  It is much higher and grand than I could capture with my camera.

This is the beach where the Dory boats slide home.  Pacific City is one of the loveliest places on the Oregon Coast.  The cliffs are on the other side of this bluff.  To get to the cliffs, one must climb a truly imposing sand dune.  People actually surf down the face of the dune on sand boards.

Sandy Cliffs and Teacup Rock - Skywatch Friday

On our 27th Anniversary over a year ago, we visited one of our favorite places in the world--Pacific City on the Oregon Coast.  It is an incredibly beautiful place where the Dory boats blast toward shore, slip sliding onto the beaches.  Surfers gracefully dance along on the curl of emerald waves.  Steep cliffs stalk the edge of the cove--vanishing into a huge sand dune.  People fly down the side of that gigantic dune on sand boards.  Brave souls.  One can look out at Teacup Rock.  I have caught some wonderful photos of that huge rock reflected in retreating ocean waves.  It is magical.

My husband and I love to hike up to the top of these sand cliffs.  As you can see they are beautiful, yet dangerous, so you have to be very careful to stay away from the edges.   The sand cliffs can crumble away at a moment's notice.  I like the smooth look of those cliffs.  Recently we watched two grey whales frolicking in the sudsy waves at the base of them.

Pacific City, with its eclectic shops, unusual restaurants, spectacular Teacup Rock, gorgeous beaches, wonderful sunsets, fabulous cliffs, amazing surfing and dory boats, is a perfectly wonderful place to visit!

Have a lovely week, everyone!

Dory Boats, Starfish and Ocean Waves

It was our 27th Wedding Anniversary.  For three years we've celebrated our wedding anniversary in Pacific City, Oregon.  This is an enchanted place where just about anything could happen.  We were blessed--the weather was fair, the wind crisp and cool.  Here you see Teacup Rock against a spectacularly blue sky.
One can meet the most interesting people walking along the beach.  I thought this young fellow with that wonderful hat was the very picture of magical quality of our weekend.
There was a minus tide which allowed us to walk along places normally covered by the sea.  In particular I enjoyed the colorful starfish curling into the face of the rocks.
I worked hard to capture the teal green of the ocean when the sun shown through the waves.  I was finally able to capture a sense of that illusive color in this sparkling wave.

Above you see one of the most spectacular and fascinating aspects of Pacific City. Every morning the Dory boats go out to sea.  The Dory is a small, shallow-draft boat with high sides, a flat bottom and sharp bow used in commercial fishing.

The boats take turns coming back to shore.  Around mid-afternoon, there's a blast of horn to warn surfers a boat is coming in.  One can watch a Dory boat gather it's strength to fly at the beach full-tilt--engines are unhinged so when the boat  hits the sand, it slides up out of the water, halfway up the beach.  It is a thrill to watch as they come in one after the other!

We climbed the sand dune, where the pathway branches out along the spine of the cliff.  That's where we found this funny fellow.  I can't figure out if he's just grouchy, or if he's puckering up for a kiss!  I call him the Muffin Man.

While we were sitting together on these cliffs, in the cove just below the Muffin Man we saw a great grey whale!  It is the first time I've seen a whale in real life.  I did not get a good picture of the whale--but the memory was magical.

This rainbow colored rock wall was just above a cave where the water pounded and sighed.  Up on the curve of the rock, I was sure I could see the outline of a mermaid.  Can you see her?  She's silhouetted against the colors of the rock.

Our 27th Anniversary was absolutely lovely.  We came away with so many wonderful memories--it was REALLY hard to go back home!

Gargoyle

These are the smooth and ever-changing sand cliffs overlooking Pacific City, where Dory Boats slide full-tilt onto the beaches, and buff surfers wait for the perfect wave.
.
What I didn't know is these cliffs are home to a Gargoyle, who watches fiendishly from overhead. Do you see her?
