Happy New Year!

It has been a difficult year for so many of you, myself included.  How grateful I am for God who sees all and Who walks with us every moment of the day.  My prayer for you, beloved Friends, is that the Lord will give each of you sparkles of unexpected joy this coming year. Watch for them!

Happy New Year dear ones--you are close to my heart and in my prayers.

Piles of Blue Snow

Two years ago over a foot of snow fell.  Here in the Independence "Vortex," deep snow is a rare phenomenon.  Memories of this lovely blue snowfall (in the right light, of course) are especially precious, because it was the last snowfall I shared with my Beloved.  It was such a beautiful time in our lives.  The snow actually lasted for a couple of weeks.

So far this winter, it has rained over 10 inches.  There is a flood watch currently covering the entire Willamette Valley of Oregon.  The river, which is only a few blocks from here, is very high.  I would not be surprised if we saw the water rise past the parking lot.

In the meantime, life is an adventure.  I only wish I could share it with my darling husband.  It is amazing that he has been gone a little over a year now.

I'm so grateful for Family and Friends who have surrounded me with love and care.

You, dear ones, are in my prayers. You know who you are.  Merry Christmas!

Hearts and Spiderwebs -Guest Heart Thursday

It has been so cold here--falling to 11 degrees one night.  It was 25 degrees last night.  Before the world started coming out of winter's frozen grip, I caught this spider web, noting the heart shaped pieces of web.  What a surprise, when I looked at this picture on the computer to find a beautifully shaped heart in the background!  Can you find it?

Have a beautiful day.  Stay warm, and Happy Guest Heart Thursday.

Icy Queen Ann's Lace -Guest Heart Thursday

The way the ice flowers away from the winter's curl of Queen Anne's Lace, fills my eyes with wonder.

Her Golden Tears

Snow swirls.
Drifting down in dark of morning light.
Covering the world with cold softness.

As the snow melts,
Her tears adorn the trees,
Flowing down old leaves.

Trembling on flowers, grass and berries.

Then a bit of precious sunshine, captured.

Her golden tears.

It's Been a Long, Hard Winter

Yes, as you might imagine, there's a story behind this interesting photo!

Every few weeks I get to brown bag it for lunch with my youngest sister, who works at a local mortuary. We often eat with the maintenance guys, who are just plain fun. There's a reason for their wonderful humor--I think these great fellas must have a certain brave, cheerful constitution to do the job they do! The grounds sparkle with their hard work.

The last time I visited, I noticed their gloves drying beside the woodstove. I was struck by the various attitudes exhibited by each one. The sight filled my eyes and made me laugh.

I asked the fellas what they'd call these pictures--smiling they said, "A long hard winter." They're going to be receiving a signed, matted, framed copy of each for their wall.

Bare Bones of Winter

Last week we drove through the Baskett Slough Bird Sanctuary near here. There is a little known road which runs down the center of the water in the sanctuary. We stopped to watch the skies. The air was alive with layers of birds lying upon the air, landing, taking off, shifting and swooping. I did not catch any photos which did justice to the majesty of that sight.

I enjoyed the Red Wing Black Birds, who's call I've learned to imitate. They seemed fascinated when I would answer them--they couldn't figure out what kind of bird I might be. Though they flitted near, I could not get close enough to take pictures of their lovely flash of red feather.

And then there were the Three Stooges you see above. These geese were hilarious to watch. I laughed and laughed at their antics.
.
It was hard to leave, as the sun set behind the soft rolling hills clad with ancient oak trees.

Whas' Happenin'?

You've heard of shy violets? Not so with this one! This pink fellow obviously poked his head above ground, took one look around and said, "Hey! Whas' Happenin' with no leaves on the trees?!" His jaw appears to have dropped in utter consternation.

Tch tch tch . . .

Go back to bed little darlin'. Winter isn't quite done yet!

Heart of Winter

There was a break in January's winter storm, when I took this photo through the uppermost window on the stairs. At the time I didn't notice the heart leaf covered with snow, which looks for all the world like the Heart of Winter.

What do you think, Sissy?! I would never have noticed this heart, except for your wonderful eye for hearts everywhere.
