Shadow of Leaf Glow - Shadow Shot Sunday

This summer while visiting my parents, I noticed the delicate green of grape leaf glowing through the shadow of the dense overhead foliage.  Something about the contrast of fir needles and fragile leaves caught my eye.  Of course, I ran for my camera to capture this interesting shadow shot.

Ever wondered what the shadow of a rainbow might look like?  Sitting on a cot outside near my parents home, I caught the shadow of a rainbow--and it was unlike anything I've ever seen.

Summer Shadows - Shadow Shot Sunday

The late summer sun flutters through the spreading feathers of the Raptor as he hunts.  He is so soft and quiet on wings of air, I almost miss his low flight over my back yard.

In evening breezes the sun shines golden rays through tree shadows, over the intricate woodwork of our neighbor's lovely old home.

Shadowy World Reflections

Sissy and I went for a walk through old town Independence--in a quaint shop window, I thought I saw a crystal ball.  So I took it's picture--and mine, too!  Turns out the globe was actually the world.

I'm combining two events in one today--I don't like to do it that way--but I've been so busy with this yard sale I haven't had much time to do much!

This lovely flower is one of the many varieties of domesticated blooms which can be found growing wildly in the grounds of the abandoned mega church.  The gold of shadow, of fragrant flower quite caught my eye.

Green and Gold - shadow Shot Sunday

 

I went for a walk one sunny Autumn evening.  I chanced to look up into a sun dappled maple tree.  What I saw took my breath away and filled my eyes.  Tangy greens and shiny golds tangled in sun and shadow to make a feast for the eyes.

Kitten's Mittons - Shadow Shot Sunday

To our great sadness we decided to take Buttercup back to the shelter.  After a month, she was still too afraid and would not bond with us.  She spent most of her time under our bed, or crammed into as tiny a corner as she could find behind our furniture.   

We were about to leave when we spied a tiny furred face pressed against the bars of her cage.  It took only a moment to know THIS five-month old kitten was meant to come home with us.

Her formal name is Audi, but we call her Bootsie, KittyBootz, and KittenKins.  Yesterday she had a wonderful time following me around the house, watching what I was doing with intense interest.  We have found a darling little friend who fills our house with smiles and fun!

Heart of the Sea

There's something magical about the seashore.  Our time at the beach last week was no exception.

My sweet Sis loves the ocean, but she hasn't been able to visit there for many years.  I wished she could walk with me, as I stepped across the sun-soaked rocks, listening to the roar of the waves on that perfect day.

Then I saw it.  A lovely sheen of heart made of what looked like sand--floating on the surface of a tide pool.  Beneath that heart the sun threw a beautiful shadow.  I could hardly believe my eyes.  I knew this lovely Heart of the Sea was something extra special--a gift from God, especially crafted for my Sister.

Hidden Treasure - Shadow Shot Sunday

On our last walk through the abandoned Mega Church, Sissy showed me a charming discovery, inside the wall, where vandals had bashed waist-high holes into the sheet rock. 

A small brown wren had built a lovely nest within.  I gasped.  The brown speckled eggs snuggled into the heart shadow of nest were indeed Hidden Treasure.  A few days later Sissy called to say they'd hatched!  You can see these funny, wide-mouthed young'uns at Clytie's fascinating blog Random Stuff. 

It seemed the perfect entry for Shadow Shot Sunday, Mother's Day AND to celebrate the wonderful day my darling Sister Clytie was born!  Be sure to drop by Random Hearts to wish Sissy a Happy Birthday!

Perched upon rhythms of shadow, this sweet songbird regaled us with a lilting tune.

Starling on Red - Shadow Shot Sunday

I was on my way back to our vehicle, when I spotted this fat little starling.  He was comfortably napping--stilt-legged, head tucked beneath wing--upon the hood of a very shiny red car.  I quickly snatched up my camera and began to snap his picture, whereapon he turned to look at me, yet stilted, with a baleful eye.

I talked to him in his "language" and we had quite a conversation going.  He wasn't shy at all.  This is the best of the pictures I shot that afternoon.  As much as I don't like starlings, this one was cute.
